The M48 Severn Bridge has closed for emergency repairs. Traffic Wales announced the closure at around 1pm on Saturday, and said drivers are being diverted via the M4 Prince of Wales Bridge.
The transport network across the country has been facing severe disruption after a major incident was declared and four “danger to life” flood warnings were issued across Wales.
A spokesman for Traffic Wales said: “The M48 Severn Bridge is closed in both directions due to emergency works.
“Further updates to be issued once it has reopened. Drivers are being diverted via J22 Prince of Wales Bridge.”
As well as the disruptions to the roads, 53 Transport for Wales rail services have been cancelled so far today and there are 85 other services that are delayed or disrupted.
Residents in Monmouthshire are the worst affected by Storm Claudia. Many have been evacuated from their homes and the town of Monmouth has been without power since 4am on Saturday. You can follow live updates on the incident by clicking here.

South Wales Fire and Rescue Service have been working with police, ambulance and the coastguard as part of their rescue operation.Natural Resources Wales has issued over 50 flood alerts across the nation. Four are labelled as severe, meaning there is a significant risk to life.
Emergency Services say conditions remain challenging due to fast-moving water, blocked routes, and the continued pressure on local infrastructure.
