Horror footage shows a fire coming from a halls of residence at a major UK university. Emergency services were called to Arthur Vick 1 residence in Warwick University after a fire broke out on Wednesday at about 9pm, it has been reported.

Video footage circulating on social media captures the dramatic moment one of the buildings is engulfed in flames, with students gathered outside observing the incident as it unfolded. As firefighters work at the scene, one clip shows a thick cloud of smoke rising into the air. At least two fire engines, ambulances and a police car were dispatched to tackle the blaze and provide support, witnesses told the student paper The Boar.

The fire is thought to have originated in a room on the top floor of the residence block, though the exact cause has not yet been confirmed.

The fire was reportedly brought under control before 11pm, but residents at the hall were advised to head to the Junction building for the time being.

A University spokesperson told the student publication: “Emergency services are attending a fire on campus in a residence block – Arthur Vick 1. Students have been evacuated, and the University is working with the emergency services. The accommodation team is providing support to those affected.”

Arthur Vick Residences are located on Warwick’s central campus and provide self-catered, en suite accommodation for students.

Set around a landscaped courtyard, the halls give residents both convenience and green surroundings.

The incident happened on the same evening the university was holding one of its 60th-year anniversary events.

Held from 1.30pm to 7pm, the event saw a “dazzling international light procession” unfolding.
