TiGames has shared plans that it’s making a prequel to the fantastic 2021 Metroidvania title F.I.S.T.: Forged in Shadow Torch called Zoopunk. Set decades before the events of F.I.S.T., you can get your first look in the trailer above, with the game confirmed for PS5.

Zoopunk explore the origins of Torch City, which was the setting for F.I.S.T.. You will take part in “the dawn of the First Torch War, when the discovery of the fire seed energy sparks an age of rapid technological progress and catastrophic conflict.”

The setup from TiGames continues: “As the energy spirals out of control, it awakens mechanical debris into self-aware, unstoppable war machines. Initially created to harness energy, these machines soon adopt violence from their creators, turning against the animals and establishing a mechanical empire bent on domination. With the city in chaos, animals from rival factions must unite to resist this overwhelming force.”

Rayton the Rabbit returns in the prequel, but there will be a further two playable characters alongside him. You can also play Braton the Rhino and Trixie the Chipmunk, with the former using a flaming sword while the latter utilises parkour moves.

There’s no release date attached to the game yet, but more details are coming in the “near future”.

If you haven’t already, F.I.S.T. is still more than worth playing on PS5, PS4. In our review, we awarded an 8/10 score and said: “F.I.S.T.: Forged In Shadow Torch is a stellar Metroidvania adventure set in a beautifully realised world, replete with challenging combat encounters, rewarding exploration, and some spicy platforming action. Rayton Rabbit might be of diminutive stature, but he’s punching well above his weight here in what is one of the best games of 2021 so far.”
