Stefanos Tsitsipas’ lawyer has insisted the Greek tennis star was not behind the wheel when his car was recorded traveling at 210 km/h on Athens’ Attiki Odos motorway.

The 27-year-old has been fined €2,000, and his driver’s license was revoked for one year.

Lawyer Thanassis Papathanasiou told authorities that the car was being driven by a third party at the time of the violation, claiming Tsitsipas had lent the vehicle. In comments to media, the lawyer did not identify the alleged driver.

The offense was captured by newly installed digital speed cameras, part of Greece’s push to improve road safety. An initial batch of cameras have just been placed on major roads, and Tsitsipas is among the first to be fined under the system.

The two-time Grand Slam finalist, who has struggled with form in recent times, is currently ranked 34th in the ATP rankings, having previously reached a career-high No. 3.
