The sky is the limit for Hull FC as they head into the 2026 Super League with a new and improved spine. That’s the opinion of Will Pryce, who is busy preparing for his first full season in black and white.
Pryce joined Hull in March of this year, two months into the campaign, after struggling to work his way into the first-team picture at NRL side Newcastle Knights. He was thrown straight into the line-up to play at stand-off in the Challenge Cup clash against Hull KR at the start of April.
However, while injury ensured he struggled to make the impact he would have liked in 2025, his other nine appearances came at full-back. Pryce is expected to take on the number one shirt this year and make the full-back spot his own and the hope is that he will be just one part of a settled spine.
Captain Aidan Sezer will be the man at seven, with new addition Jake Arthur signed to play alongside him at six. Amir Bourouh and Cade Cust look set to share the hooker spot, too.
Throw the fit again John Asiata into the mix at loose-forward and Hull have an attacking unit that many believe is worth getting excited about.
Pryce, who looks set to resume full training shortly after overcoming the foot injury which brought his season to a premature end in August, is one of those, with the former Huddersfield Giants man believing that Arthur could well prove to be the final piece of the puzzle for the Black and Whites.
Hull FC man Will Pryce on Jake Arthur’s arrival
“I think with having a new spine and bringing Jake in and having John and Sezer back for this year, the sky is the limit for us,” Pryce told Serious About RL. “It’s always good to build new combinations and I think that’s what pre-season is about.
“[Arthur] is massive for us. Custy did a great job in the six last year once I moved to full-back but having an out and out six is going to be massive for us.
“Me, Sezer, John Asiata and John Cartwright, we spoke a lot last year about what we can do with a genuine six and Jake’s rugby spoke for itself, playing in the NRL. I think he’s going to go really well for us this year.
“It’s just good to have a steady team where we’re hopefully not going to be riddled with injuries and hopefully people are going to be in those positions where we can fight for the top four.
“People were playing out of position last year, we had Zak playing six, one, centre, back row, he played every position he probably could, we had a young team coming off the bench and we were pushing players to play longer minutes than they probably needed. So hopefully having Jake and a few of the new signings in there to build combinations and competition will be good for us.”
