Richmond artist Lucy Pittaway has unveiled her latest collection, one which marks a significant evolution in her style and subject matter.

The artist is best-known for her naïve and imaginative style, memorably applied to landscapes, nature, garden and animals.

Her new works is entitled The Ladies Collection.

The collection of six new figurative paintings have been inspired by memories of sketching women in gowns at her mum’s dress shop.

Each piece captures women in elegant dresses, brought to life with use of colour, movement and storytelling. Each piece bears a feminine name – Grace, Rose, Serenity, Liberty, Joy and Passion.

Lucy said: “The idea began years ago when I spent time in my mum’s wedding dress and flower shop, modelling gowns and sketching women in sweeping dresses whenever I could. Those early drawings stayed with me, even as life and my art moved in other directions.

“Recently, seeing my own daughter and friends’ daughters in long evening dresses for end-of-school celebrations brought those memories back. It felt like the right moment to explore that side of my creativity again.

“This series of paintings captures women caught in a moment, with all the emotion that brings. It marks a new chapter for me, one that still carries my love of colour, movement and storytelling, but with a fresh focus on the female form.”

Yorkshire-based Lucy has seven galleries across the North-East, North Yorkshire and the Lake District, as well as a destination outlet store.

The Ladies Collection including originals, prints and canvasses are available to buy online, or in the galleries.
