Coastal shipping traffic strong despite pressures

[InTime News]

Preliminary data on this summer’s coastal passenger traffic are promising, with June showing a stabilizing trend and July going strong.

Despite the challenges of increased costs in coastal shipping and changes in tourists’ habits, official figures have shown that coastal passenger traffic in June amounted to 2,880,607 passengers, compared to 2,867,863 in June 2024, recording a marginal but positive change of about 0.45%.

Also, the dynamic start of July strengthens the forecasts for a season that, despite the pressures, is expected to move at the same levels as last year, confirming the importance of coastal shipping for the country’s tourism and island economy.

The figures from the Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Insular Policy for the first weeks of July reinforce optimism about the course of this year’s season, with passenger traffic increasing by 6.7% compared to the same period last year.

From July 1 to 19, over 650,000 passengers departed from the three major ports of Attica to the Aegean islands.
