QPR head coach Julien Stéphan has delivered a glowing scouting report of Saturday’s opponents Hull City, as he looks to mastermind just a third Loftus Road victory of the season and halt the Tigers’ momentum.
Rangers ended a three-game losing run last time out with a battling point in a goalless draw at struggling Sheffield United, but now face a City side with five wins and a draw in their last seven games, including victory over Portsmouth last time out.
That impressive form under Sergej Jakirovic has catapulted City up to fifth in the table with the Tigers second top goalscorers in the Championship behind leaders Coventry City, while Rangers sit 16th with just one win in six, and only two wins from their seven home outings so far.
The Frenchman, who took charge in West London during the summer, admits he’s been hugely impressed by the way Jakirovic’s men have gone about their business, emphasising their courage and character.
“They are not a surprise. They play with character and they play with courage,” the Rangers boss explained. “I like and I enjoy how they play, but I am completely convinced that we are able to compete against this team.
“They had a good run in October and November, but we know that because we had the same one before. We know that it can change very quickly. We have respect because they play well and scored a lot of goals – 26 from the start of the season – that means they are able to create danger, and I respect that a lot.
“For us, the main thing is to stay focused. It is a new start, a new run, a long run now, so we have to play a good game against them, but I am convinced we have the quality to get a good result.”
