British actor Aaron Taylor-Johnson appears to have dropped a massive hint that he will become the next James Bond. The Golden Globe winner has been amongst the bookies’ favourites along with Tom Holland, Tom Hardy and Idris Elba since Daniel Craig’s 007 was killed off during his fifth and final film, No Time To Die.

Aaron is a new global ambassador for luxury watchmakers Omega, which just happens to be the favourite timepiece brand of Ian Fleming’s most famous spy. The character has worn an Omega Seamaster in every film since 1995, and the brand has produced a number of special 007 editions over the years.

Announcing the new partnership, Omega’s president and CEO Raynald Aeschlimann said 35-year-old Aaron was a perfect fit for the brand and hinted at a very Bond-like set of qualities. “Aaron is such a versatile actor, with a range that covers action, thriller, romance and much more,” he said.

Aaron, whose early acting credits include Shanghai Knights (2003) and The Illusionist (2006), was even spotted recently wearing a Speedmaster First Omega in Space during a visit to the brand’s factory in Switzerland.

On his new gig, the 28 Years Later star said: “I place significant value on relationships that are genuine and built on mutual passion and respect… My interest in watches first began with my dad who introduced me to Omega, if you can believe it. He was working class and saved his earnings to purchase an Omega watch”.

In some seamless product placement, Daniel’s 007 is seen wearing a Seamaster Diver 300M while taking down Le Chiffre over a casino gaming table in Casino Royale (2006), and in his final 2021 film, he wore a titanium Seamaster Diver 300M 007 Edition.

While Aaron now lives in the US with his filmmaker wife Sam Taylor-Wood, he is currently in the UK shooting Werwulf, an upcoming period horror film that also stars Lily-Rose Depp and Willem Dafoe.

It is not totally clear when Bond fans will see him – or rather, see a new embodiment of him – back in cinemas, but in 2022 a Bond producer said it was likely a long way off.

Producer Barbara Broccoli told Deadline: “There isn’t a script and we can’t come up with one until we decide how we’re going to approach the next film because, really, it’s a reinvention of Bond. We’re reinventing who he is, and that takes time. I’d say that filming is at least two years away.”

Little else is known about what Bond 26 will have in store, but it is expected to be the first film where the famous spy serves under a male monarch, and if it comes out after 2027, it will also mark the longest gap between any two films in the franchise.

Last month Idris Elba shot down claims he’s to be the next Bond, speaking exclusively to the Mirror, the 53-year-old star claimed age is against him. “I can’t believe I am still being asked this at 53!” he said. “When you sign up to Bond you sign up for a decade of making films, often a bit longer. Nobody wants to see Bond running around in his mid 60’s!”
