Swansea Council has issued an update hours before the city’s popular Christmas parade after a sinkhole opened up on a busy road. A section of Bryn-y-Mor Road in Swansea was closed on Saturday with the council adding it was likely to remain shut for a number of days due to the sinkhole.

On Sunday morning the council issued an update to local residents confirming the closed section of the road has been moved. It is now shut between the junction of the southern exit of Eaton Crescent and the junction of King Edward Road.

The Christmas parade route is not affected, the statement added.

The council asked anyone heading to the parade take alternative routes to avoid Bryn-y-Mor Road.

Delays are expected in the city on Sunday due to the festivities with road closures in place near the cricket club past Guildhall, up Kingsway to the Dragon Hotel, and down to Oystermouth Road around the arena.

A brand new route was recently announced for this year’s parade, which is set to kick off from 5pm. The parade will begin begin at the Guildhall where Santa will illuminate the building with a festive red glow before a fireworks display will mark the start of proceedings.

The parade will then travel down St Helen’s Road, the Kingsway, College Street, Castle Street, and Caer Street before reaching its conclusion in Princess Way. For the latest Swansea news sign up to our newsletter here.
