2025 Davis Cup Final – Jaume Munar wins first set in bid to keep Spain alive, Flavio Cobolli looks to seal title for Italy

Cobolli and Munar continue to hold after their early exchange of breaks, where the Italian has been far more solid on his serve (66 per cent vs 48 per cent first serve percentage) but cannot convert on the return.

It is getting feisty in Bologna between these two, but the tennis on show is of the highest quality. Cobolli is managing his way through the set to force a deciding set, while Munar is pushing for a deciding match.

The match has resumed with Cobolli on a break point. The nine-minute delay has allowed both players to rest, and crucially Munar to save the point. His first smash is saved by Cobolli, and on the second opportunity, Munar hits it wide.

Munar does recover the second break point, only to produce a third with a missed net drop shot. On his second serve, an aggressive Cobolli gets a stroke of luck as his net volley clips the net and he breaks.

After Cobolli found some respite with a first hold of the match, Munar serves for the set and roars through to hold to love. A forehand winner into the corner secures the opener, a vital one for Spain.

Cobolli had three break points and was building momentum; that was until Munar upped his service to bring it back to deuce. It takes until the 13th point for Munar to hold, a crucial one at that as he makes it five games won without reply.

It is a double break for world No. 36 Munar, who is hitting some fantastic forehands while Cobolli is forced into several net errors. The home hope has some work to do and is working his way back into it point by point.

What a point from Munar! He recovers two fearsome volleys, the second from one baseline to the other, and pushes Cobolli back. The Spaniard responds with a volley to set up break point, and another net volley deep into the corner gives him a vital break early on.
