A Strictly Come Dancing star has been revealed to have danced in Blackpool with a ‘dislocated rib’ amid La Voix’s withdrawal from the series.

The drag queen, whose non-performer name is Chris Dennis, was previously announced to be getting a bye through Blackpool week as a result of picking up an injury. La Voix was the first ever drag queen to compete on the main series.

La Voix has been competing on the popular BBC programme with professional dancer Aljaz Skorjanec. The pair were last seen making it through the annual programme filmed at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom.

It was initially confirmed on Tuesday morning (November 18) that La Voix had picked up an injury and had been advised by doctors to rest, meaning she wouldn’t dance on Saturday night (November 22).

However, following a performance from the remaining contestants and pros, soundtracked to a live performance from Steps, Tess Daly and Claudia Winkelman confirmed that La Voix won’t be returning to the show in the opening moments of the Blackpool special.

“Now, as you may have heard La Voix sustained an injury meaning she can’t dance in Blackpool tonight. Following further advice from our medical team, we can now confirm very sadly that she has had to withdraw from the competition,” Tess said.

Claudia added: “We will be speaking to La Voix in tomorrow’s night’s show. We love you so, so much.”

With La Voix appearing gutted in the crowd, she took to her official Instagram account during the show to have her say on her Strictly journey coming to a sudden end. She captioned her post: “Darlings, it breaks my heart to say this, but after all week of hoping, healing, and doing everything I possibly could, my injury simply hasn’t improved the way we prayed it would. With the guidance of the medical team and a heavy, heavy heart I have to officially withdraw from Strictly Come Dancing.

“This show has been one of the most extraordinary experiences of my life. To step onto that iconic dancefloor, to be welcomed so warmly by the judges, the pros, the crew, Tess & Claudia and of course the fabulous audience — it has meant the world to me. My only sadness is that I won’t be able to continue the journey the way I so wished I could.

“What upsets me most is feeling like I’ve let my wonderful partner, Aljaž Škorjanec, down. He has supported me, encouraged me, and believed in me from day one, and I so desperately wanted to keep dancing for him as much as for myself.”

The post continued: “I’m devastated not to be able to continue the adventure with him, but I’m endlessly grateful for everything he’s given me throughout this experience. To my fellow contestants — keep sparkling. To everyone who has supported me, voted for me, and sent such kind messages: thank you. Your love has lifted me more than you know. This isn’t the ending I imagined, but I’ll cherish every moment I had on that dancefloor. All my love.”

It has now emerged that Doctor Who and ER star Alex Kingston performed at the annual edition of the series filmed live from the Blackpool Tower Ballroom with a ‘dislocated rib’.

The reveal came from Alex’s daughter Salome Violetta Haertel, who commented on a snap of Alex and her professional dance partner Johannes Rabede’s couple’s choice dance routine at Blackpool, which the judges gave 35 out of 40 points.

Revealing that her mum has been soldiering on with the injury, Saloma wrote: “So so proud!!! Slayed on the dance floor, dislocated rib and all!!!”

La Voix is the fourth contestant to pull of Strictly this year, Games of Thrones actor Kristian Nairn pulled out just days after the line-up was announced, saying he’s been struggling with ‘a high level of stress and a little bit of grief’. The second star to leave was Dani Dyer, who competed on the launch show, with Amber Davies stepping in to dance with Nikita Kuzmin.

The third star to end their Strictly journey abruptly was Neighbours legend Stefan Dennis, who was dancing with fellow Australian Dianne Buswell, after he tore his calf. Since the series was already well underway, Dianne was not given a new partner.

It was also confirmed on Saturday by Tess that a celebrity and their professional dance partner would not leave the competition this week. The six remaining couples – including Emmerdale star Lewis Cope and Katya Jones, and EastEnders actress Balvinder Sopal and Julian Caillon go through to the November 29 live show.

Scores from judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Shirley Ballas and Anton Du Beke as well as viewers’ votes will be carried over, and combined with next week’s points and votes. Two couples with the fewest votes will take part in the dreaded dance-off, where they will fight it out for one of them to stay in the competition during the November 30 results show.
