The figures are not quite official (the first updates from the International Cycling Union will come later), but the results are there for all to see: the 2026 season has barely begun and Burgos Burpellet BH has already accumulated a very significant amount of UCI points.
When the 2026 calendar comes into full effect, the Spanish ProTeam will start with a significant advantage over the rest of the teams, thanks to the 393.3 points obtained during the week of the 2025 African Championships, events held in a section of the calendar that already counts for 2026.
The purple squad saw Eritrea’s Merhawi Kudus win the 250-point elite road race, finish sixth in the individual time trial (20 points) and be part of the Eritrean team that finished fourth in the mixed relay time trial (10 points). Therefore, Kudus can now even enjoy a few weeks as the virtual leader of the 2026 individual world rankings.
And that’s not all: Alexandre Mayer, representing Mauritius, performed formidably on the Kenyan roads as well. His results brought the Burgos structure additional 113.3 points, distributed in the 50 points of the tenth place in the road race, the 40 points of the third place in the individual time trial and the 23.3 points derived from the gold obtained together with the national team in the mixed relay time trial.
A crucial push towards 2027
All this, for a ProTeam team like Burgos Burpellet BH, can be extremely valuable for the 2026 rankings, which will determine the chances of receiving invitations to the 2027 Grand Tours (you have to finish in the top 30 at the end of the season) and possible automatic invitations to the big races.
By way of comparison, the haul achieved in this single week represents more than 10% of all the points with which the squad closed the 2025 season, when it finished in 27th place overall.
To use the expression made, more than appropriate for the time of year in which we are, “the season is still very long”, but for Burgos Burpellet BH to start the new block with almost 400 points ahead of its category rivals and a continental champion jersey on top of that, that’s a sweet way to wrap up the calendar year.

Burgos Burpellet BH is shaping up to be one of the best Spanish teams in the peloton
