Gail Porter has opened up about how she is planning to spend Christmas alone this year as well as having a ticket to a gig taken away from her last minute, despite it being given to her by a charity. The star has said that it is “lucky I don’t cry easily” as she opened up about the difficult situation.

She admitted that she could do with “a hug” after being let down by the charity. She took to her social media to share a post where she spoke about the gig and Christmas. The 54-year-old had hoped that she would get to see her favourite band Radiohead but this didn’t happen as a charity she works for withdrew the ticket, which left her gutted.

Gail shared a selfie with a cap pulled over her face as she wrote: “The Sunday face when a charity you work for offers a ‘thank you’ with a ticket to one of your favourites… (clue in this post!)

“Then messages to say… oh sorry… you can’t have the ticket now. Our bad! Oh well. Lucky I don’t cry too easily.” Followers quickly worked out that Gail was referring to Radiohead in her post.

Gail then shared another post where she said that she had been let down by a promoter and a friend who failed to invite her over for Christmas. She said: “And last moan…. I promise. I did a job for free recently and they offered to donate money to a charity of my choice…. Still waiting.

“And… my friend asked what i was doing for Christmas. I said nothing planned… she suggested i do charity work. Has she any idea what I dedicate half my life to? Just a hug is all i really need!”

Fans of the star took to the comments to share their messages of support. One said: “It sounds like you’re being taken for granted, Gail. You need to take care of yourself too.” As a second wrote: “So sad for you Gail you just head home and put a cd on,” with a third person adding: “That’s terrible!”

Gail has been open about dealing with alopecia over the years. Her hair started to fall out back in 2005 and she found that presenting jobs dried up as she wouldn’t wear a wig. During a similar time, she went through a divorce with Toploader guitarist Dan Hipgrave after three years of marriage.

In 2014, Gail was forced to sleep rough due to lack of work and having financial difficulties. She was declared bankrupt and lived off just £200 a month where she mainly ate Marmite on toast.

She spent nights sleeping on park benches in Hampstead Heath and said she felt too ashamed to ask for help. She eventually turned to her friends and started sofa-surfing.

The next summer, Gail went on to appear on Celebrity Big Brother and she used the fee she earned to put a deposit down on her flat in London.
