Calne’s Connor Gray delivered one of the strongest wins of his career with a composed yet gritty display against Argentina’s Alan Boncompagni.
He entered the bout off the back of a narrow English title defeat to Billy Pickles in March and a frustrating draw with Garth Noot in June.
Across six pulsating rounds, Gray, known for his slick southpaw skills, was forced to dig deep, meeting the younger Boncompagni in fierce exchanges while maintaining the cleaner work throughout.
After the final bell, Gray reflected on his performance and his renewed momentum, remarking simply: “A happy fighter is a dangerous fighter.”
The night’s main event delivered its own drama as unbeaten Gloucester cruiserweight Jack Bannister overcame Peckham’s Ross McGuigan to claim the vacant Southern Area title.
Despite suffering a broken left hand early in the contest, Bannister dug deep and repeatedly found success with his powerful right hand, exploiting openings in McGuigan’s low-set guard.
After 10 hard-fought rounds, referee Lee Every awarded Bannister a 97-93 decision.
