Wigan Warriors will send one of their young forwards out on loan to the Championship next season.

Harvey Makin will join Oldham RLFC for the second time in his career, in a bid to find regular game time and keep developing  before heading back to the Cherry and Whites.

Moving to the club for the entire 2026 campaign, the 22-year-old made his senior rugby league debut at the Roughyeds back in 2023, featuring in a Challenge Cup game and a League One fixture that season.

He may have made just one Super League experience for the Warriors, but he has featured for London Broncos in 2024 and Salford Red Devils in 2025, so does have previous knowledge of the top flight – something Oldham will be looking to lean on in their bid to earn promotion next year.

Makin has featured for six different clubs across his young career so far, with Bradford Bulls and Barrow Raiders adding to the four clubs mentioned already. In total, he has made 41 senior appearances, but has made plenty more in the Warriors academy and reserves set-up.

The prop is yet another addition to the Oldham forward pack, which has been a focus point of their recruitment so far. Their most recent signing saw them bring in Emmanuel Waine from Bradford, as well as Cole Geyer, Ethan Moore and Jaron Purcell from Australia.

It is worth mentioning that the club still don’t have a confirmed head coach going into next season, following the decision to part company with Sean Long last month. The former St Helens half-back agreed to exit Boundary Park after what the club thought was an underwhelming season, despite finishing fourth in their first season back in the Championship.

Commenting on his season-long switch, Makin said: “I’m very excited to join Oldham, it is a club that is building which excites me.

“Oldham’s ambitions are Super League and that aligns to my own. This is a very ambitious club and I wouldn’t go to a club who doesn’t want to win every game.

“I want to bring loads of energy and a good intensity and try to raise the team – either with individual actions or geeing people up so we can win the game.

“My goals for 2026 are to show what I can do and chase consistency. I want to prove that I can lead a forward pack week-to-week and really add to a team. I want us to be as good as possible and win as many games as we can.”
