A milestone was previously reported to have been achieved by Apple regarding its iPhone Fold, as the company had apparently obtained a crease-free design, which would help set it miles apart from the competition. With this massive hurdle scaled, the device had entered the pre-production phase, with the latest update stating that only some minor adjustments remain, which might take a couple of months to address, after which the iPhone Fold could enter the mass production stage. As for Apple’s suppliers, they are equally prepared to begin shipping the necessary parts for assembly.

The unique design of the iPhone Fold was under development for five years, with Apple estimated to ship up to 9 million units in its first year of inception

An extensive supply chain has been set up for the iPhone Fold, with United Daily News mentioning manufacturers like Samsung, TSMC. Foxconn, Shin Zu Shing, Chi Hong, and Largan Precision are expected to benefit greatly from the upcoming launch. Interestingly, the report states that the iPhone Fold will be outfitted with a vapor chamber supplied by Chi Hong, marking the first time this component has been mentioned in relation to the device.

It appears that Apple’s introduction of the vapor chamber to the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max will become a standard for future models. Apple is estimated to mass produce between 7 million to 9 million units of the iPhone Fold in its first year, which will make up around 30-40 percent of global annual shipments of foldable smartphones. This category has remained somewhat stagnant, as Apple’s competition cannot scale past challenges such as high prices, preventing a large swath of customers from upgrading.

However, despite the iPhone Fold tipped to launch at $2,399, Apple’s software ecosystem and brand image likely mean that customers will ignore other smartphones powered by Android in favor of the first foldable iPhone. Along with sporting a crease-less design, the iPhone Fold is expected to be one of the first devices, alongside the iPhone 18 series, to feature Apple’s A20 Pro, which will be the latter’s first 2nm chipset.

Both the A20 and A20 Pro are expected to arrive with a multitude of technological advancements, which should become a viable selling point to justify the iPhone Fold’s ridiculously high price tag.
