Meghan was recently slammed for clinging on to her royal links after an interview with Harper’s Bazaar. It sparked debate for a number of reasons, including her being formally announced by her royal title to the interviewer.
Meghan met with Harper’s Bazaar’s Kaitlyn Greenidge for an interview at one of her friends’ homes in New York.
Ms Greenidge wrote of their encounter: “We’re in a grand brownstone on the Upper East Side that belongs to one of Meghan’s friends. When I enter, the house manager announces, ‘Meghan, Duchess of Sussex,’ even though we appear to be the only other two people in the house.”
Although the Duke and Duchess of Sussex still retain their royal titles and HRH style, they do not use the latter in a comercial context.
Renae Smith, founder and director of The Atticism, told the Express: “From a PR perspective, it is such a bad idea.
“It is confusing, it is provocative in the wrong way and it puts her straight back beneath the royal shadow she always bloody insists she wants to get away from.
“It’s not hard to avoid anything royal. But she can’t go two weeks without doing something linked back to the Royal Family!
“I guess Harry might love it. I would assume she checked with him first, and he probably told her it was lovely.”
