Terence Crawford is a matter of months away from challenging Canelo Alvarez for the undisputed super middleweight world title. One man who sparred both has weighed in on how it might go down.

Crawford has already been undisputed in two divisions, a champion in four, but will make a 14 pound jump up since his last contest to face Canelo, also a four-weight world champion.

How the American handles those extra pounds is key, and many in the sport doubt that he will be able to put a dent in Alvarez, who boasts one of the best chins in the business. Crawford’s skillset is undeniable, but he is faced with the tall task of avoiding the pressure and counters from a man who has fought as high as light heavyweight

Middleweight boxer Kyrone Davis, who has shared rounds with both men in the gym, spoke to Mill City Boxing about the match-up, ultimately saying that it was Alvarez who could hurt Crawford and that his money would be on the champion to retain was he forced to bet.

“Canelo is a big guy. It’s going to be a lot. He can take a punch so you’re not going to hurt Canelo. I don’t think Crawford can hurt him with one punch, maybe he can cut an eye or something or bother him to the body.

“He has to get some flesh on gloves and go to the body, it’s going to be a tall task. Canelo can really fight. He has moves and traps. It’s not easy. In boxing nothing is impossible, but if I had to bet I’d put money on Canelo.

“I’m not taking anything away from Crawford, but Canelo is great. Can Canelo stop him? He’s a bigger guy. I think one punch can do it.”

The undisputed fight takes place on September 13 at the Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas and will be streamed live on Netflix. As for Davis, he will soon look to bounce back from a unanimous decision loss to Yoenli Hernandez in May.
