A new rumor about the possible release date change for Dune: Part Three has surfaced online, teasing that fans might be able to watch the highly anticipated sci-fi epic sooner than expected. This comes more than two weeks after lead star Timothée Chalamet confirmed that he has already wrapped filming the next chapter of Denis Villeneuve’s acclaimed blockbuster saga,
What’s the new release date update for Dune 3?
Warner Bros. is reportedly planning to change the theatrical release date for Dune: Part Three, which is currently set for December 18, 2026. According to insider EmpireCity Box Office, Dune 3 will likely have an earlier release date to avoid clashing with Avengers: Doomsday. A delay to 2027 is said to be unlikely since director Denis Villeneuve has to move on to his James Bond movie. This won’t be the only shakeup to Warners’ 2026 lineup, as the insider says there are “lots of shifts still coming.”
I’ve been trying to tell everyone that @dunemovie Part 3 would likely shift up, not back and looks like that might finally be the case. The previous 2 were ready early and Villeneuve has to move onto @007 soon after. Makes zero sense to move it back to 2027. @warnerbros pic.twitter.com/NH5IMs2QK1

Dune: Part 3 is once again directed and produced by Denis Villeneuve, who co-wrote the screenplay with Jon Spaihts. It is based on Frank Herbert’s 1969 novel Dune Messiah. The star-studded cast also includes Zendaya as Chani, Florence Pugh as Princess Irulan, Anya Taylor-Joy as Alia Atreides, Jason Momoa as Duncan Idaho, Josh Brolin as Gurney Halleck, Rebecca Ferguson as Lady Jessica, Nakoa-Wolf Momoa as Leto II Atreides, Ida Brooke as Ghanima Atreides, and more. The creative team consists of director of photography Linus Sandgren, editor Joe Walker, and composer Hans Zimmer.
A description of Herbier’s novel reads, “Dune Messiah continues the story of Paul Atreides, better known—and feared—as the man christened Muad’Dib. As Emperor of the known universe, he possesses more power than a single man was ever meant to wield. Worshipped as a religious icon by the fanatical Fremen, Paul faces the enmity of the political houses he displaced when he assumed the throne—and a conspiracy conducted within his own sphere of influence. And even as House Atreides begins to crumble around him from the machinations of his enemies, the true threat to Paul comes to his lover, Chani, and the unborn heir to his family’s dynasty…”
