Teofimo Lopez has agreed to face an unbeaten world champion from a different weight class next.

The 27-year-old from Brooklyn currently reigns as the WBO world super-lightweight title, with his most recent defence coming against mandatory challenger Arnold Barboza Jr at Times Square in New York City on May 2.

Lopez previously held the unified WBA, WBO and IBF world lightweight titles between 2019 and 2021 before he was eventually dethroned by Australia’s George Kambosos Jr in what was the first defeat of his professional career.

One fighter that wants to lock horns with Lopez is reigning WBC world lightweight champion Shakur Stevenson, as revealed on a recent social media post.

“I seen u say u wanna fight me Teofimo Lopez what’s stopping it from happening next and this ain’t no bluff let’s make boxing great again Lil Teo.”

Lopez responded to this post just one day later, agreeing to face Stevenson and warning ‘be careful what you wish for’.

“I’m going to repeat this, like I said to Barboza..

Shakur Stevenson Be careful what you ask for!”

If Lopez and Stevenson were to meet next, the American duo colliding would be one of the most exciting bouts in the sport.

It has been reported however that Stevenson could be matched up with long-term rival Gervonta Davis next, after it was revealed that Riyadh Season’s Turki Alalshikh remains interested in making the long-awaited ‘dream-fight’ next.
