The Ibrox icon hasn’t been impressed with the new faces with the club in need of an “intervention”

Legendary Rangers captain Richard Gough has revealed he saw an offer to assist the struggling players tuned out by the club. He insists that the club need an “intervention” amid a dismal campaign.
The American revolution has got off to a sluggish start at Ibrox after the summer takeover by US tycoon Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises. The ill-fated appointment of Russell Martin and poor summer recruitment left the club languishing in the lower reaches of the Scottish Premiership.
Since then, Danny Rohl has come in to replace Martin and has steadied the ship – but the turnover behind the scenes has rumbled on. Sporting director Kevin Thelwell and CEO Patrick Stewart paid the price for the dismal start to the season after being sacked by chairman Cavenagh.
The pair were instrumental in this summer’s hiring of Martin as gaffer and a botched £40million squad revamp. And speaking to The Scotsman, Gough admits he is concerned about the next steps for the Glasgow giants.
He said: “We were always taught you never criticise Rangers Football Club if you have played for them. You don’t criticise the club you played for, that was a thing. But it’s come to the point where I am thinking, ‘they need a shot across the bows!’
“What do you call it when someone is struggling or should be in rehab? They need an… intervention. It’s just not getting any better. I feel sorry for the manager at the moment.”
The club ambassador revealed that he reached out to the club with an offer to assist with coaching the defender at Ibrox after the former Southampton boss was shown the door – but did not hear back. He urged the US chiefs to seek the knowledge of club legends as Gough revealed he has been “introduced” to Cavenagh.

The legendary defender said: “They should be going around people like (Ally) McCoist and gaining as much advice as they can, put it all together from guys who have been successful at the club.”
Thelwell’s recruitment drive has also been criticised by the Light Blues’ icon, as he struggled to dish out pass marks to any of the summer additions: “The two boys (Emmanuel) Fernandez and (Nasser) Djiga have been thrown in there,.
“I would imagine Cornelius and Souttar are the first choice, unless he (Rohl) wants to play a three.
“The two boys look big, strong, athletic. But they are not good enough, not yet at least.
“They might become good enough. Someone was saying to me Fernandez ‘might grow into it’.
“But you don’t get time to grow into it at Rangers – or Celtic. You have to hit the ground running. I look at the Rangers team now, all the players that we have signed….(Djeidi) Gassama is maybe OK.”
