Geoff Keighley sure knows what he’s doing, huh?
After cryptically teasing an intriguing art installation on X (or Twitter), the web has been awash with speculation about what it’s referring to.
Initially, one conclusion fans jumped to was God of War, purely due to the presence of skeletons, demons, and armour, which we suppose you may associate with Santa Monica Studio’s series.
Then speculation seemed to settle on Diablo 4, before Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier completely ruled that out.
Cory Barlog was just in chat on my stream and confirmed this is NOT God of War related. https://t.co/HrurGYFpVr pic.twitter.com/pCkLcHSMJH— Luke Stephens (@LukeStephens) December 1, 2025
Now veteran director Cory Barlog, who worked on God of War 2 and its 2018 reboot, has dropped into the chat of a Luke Stephens stream to say The Game Awards tease has nothing to do with God of War.
Barlog’s next game at Santa Monica Studio is said to not be a new IP, but it’ll apparently feel like one. This implies to us that it’s another God of War reboot, perhaps set in a different mythos.
So, what is this teaser about, then?
We’re not sure, but it’ll need to have a big publisher behind it because setting up an activation like this on the outskirts of LA can’t have been cheap.
Fortunately, The Game Awards will get underway in about 10 days, and we’ll find out for certain then.
