Is there a more unconventional but perfect pairing than Pillion’s Alexander Skarsgård and lesbian icon Miriam Margolyes? We don’t think so.

The pair recently appeared on Friday’s (28 November) The Graham Norton Show together, where Skarsgård revealed he nearly moved in with Margolyes.

Actors Skarsgård and Margolyes, 49 and 84, respectively, were joined on the famous couch by All’s Fair’s Glenn Close and Bridgerton’s Nicola Coughlan. Whilst there, Skarsgård revealed he has a history with Margolyes.

Norton prompted Skarsgård to explain that he knew Margolyes. “No you don’t!” Margolyes examined, in her classic, blunt but hilarious fashion.

“I clearly made a strong impression on Miriam when we met,” Skarsgård riffed. Margolyes looked visibly shocked.

“I believe you own, or used to own, a condo in Santa Monica… were you looking to rent out a room, in that, at one point?” Skarsgård asked.

“When I was coming back to England, yes. What were you doing there?” Margolyes asked.

“It was an ad. I was looking for a room to rent,” Skarsgård noted. Margolyes interrupted him: “And why didn’t you take it?”

“Well… It’s a gorgeous apartment, and I remember that you were very charming, and I think in hindsight I probably misread the cues. But I felt a strong sexual connection and felt it could potentially get messy if I rent a room in this apartment, if I’m your tenant.”

“Darling!” Margolyes exclaimed. “I’m 84 and gay, and I’ve been with my partner for 58 years.”

“Again, I probably misread the situation. I do remember we had a lovely afternoon, which you obviously don’t remember…” Skarsgård also stated, leaving Margolyes very confused.

Norton then jokingly asked Coughlan if she’d worked, or lived, with Margolyes. Coughlan hilariously responded: “Yes, Miriam I am your daughter.”

Leaning over and addressing Coughlan, Skarsgård added: “And I’m your father.” The whole room burst out into laughter as the three actors cuddled together.

I don’t know about you, but Alexander Skarsgård, Miriam Margolyes and Nicola Coughlan are now my chosen family.

Not one to hold back on anecdotes, while on Norton’s show Margolyes also detailed a naked stunt that got her told off. She explained the was running naked from a sauna into the snow at a health farm but got caught by the establishment’s director: “I was taken to his office and told never to do it again!”
