The Sunrise Crew, a group of runners, have committed to raising funds and awareness for the mental health charity Mind by running every weekday at 6am along the Seaford seafront, starting from Splashpoint.
The group runs six kilometres each morning, but the focus is on community and inclusion rather than distance or speed.
Sam Alvarez, assistant headteacher and head of sixth form at Seaford Head School and a member of the Sunrise Crew, said: “The initiative is a great way to beat the winter blues, boost mental well-being, and foster community spirit.
“We wanted something that would give us all a reason to get up early, get outside, and start the day feeling positive. Fresh air and exercise are such powerful tools for mental health.
“Beyond physical health, the runs offer a safe space for connection. Some members share their mental health challenges, while others simply enjoy the peace and companionship.
“Life can be tough. Doing this together every morning for such a worthwhile cause lifts our spirits and give us a real sense of commitment.”
The runs welcome people of all abilities, with some participants completing the full route and others turning back early.
The emphasis is on starting and finishing together, whether running, jogging, or walking.
The Sunrise Crew has pledged to continue their weekday runs until they reach their fundraising target of £5,000 for Mind, and many plan to keep going even after the goal is reached.
To support the group’s efforts, donations can be made through their JustGiving page at justgiving.com/team/sunrisecrewrunformind.
Everyone is welcome to join the Sunrise Crew.
No registration is required – just turn up at Splashpoint with a pair of trainers and, as the group suggests, “maybe some gloves.”
Mind aims to make sure that no one in the United Kingdom has to face a mental health problem alone.
All contributions, no matter how small, are greatly appreciated, and will help the group reach their target for Mind.
