Emanuel Steward is regarded by many as being one of the greatest trainers of all time.

The legendary Kronk Gym founder helped guide a number of iconic stars to world honours, including Thomas Hearns, Lennox Lewis and Wladimir Klitschko.

Few man are better placed to judge the talent of the sport, and Steward once revealed who he deemed to be three of the best ever, pound-for-pound.

He began by saying who he felt was the third greatest of all time.

“Henry Armstrong. Fought in all those divisions and was robbed in middleweight title fight when they called it a draw.”

Armstrong competed from 1931 to 1945, and was the only fighter ever to hold world titles in three divisions at the same time, having done so at featherweight, lightweight and welterweight.

Steward then revealed who he felt takes second place.

“Muhammad Ali. Ali fought everybody, no matter what style.”

Ali’s accomplishments speak for themselves, having been a three-time heavyweight champion and involved in some of the most iconic fights of all time, including the Rumble in the Jungle with George Foreman and the Thrilla in Manila with Joe Frazier.

He finished his career with a record of 56 wins and 5 defeats, 37 wins coming by knockout, and is arguably the most well known boxer in the history of the sport.

Finally, Steward declared who he deems as the greatest fighter of all time.

“Sugar Ray Robinson. The best welterweight ever! A phenomenal record at a time when records were real.”

Robinson was a long-time welterweight champion along with a five-time middleweight champion, and at one stage had a record of 129 wins, 1 defeat and 2 draws, going on a remarkable 91-fight unbeaten streak in the process.

He final record stood at 174 wins, 19 defeats, 6 draws and 2 no contests, 109 wins coming by knockout, and it is clear to see just why Steward, along with many others, view him as the best ever.
