The rumour mill has been in full drive this week as Liam Gallagher returned to social media and a not-so-secret mural started to appear on the side of a Northern Quarter building. For now, there’s no update on the likelihood of more shows but at least the city has been gifted a new tambourine.

Earlier this week, eagle-eyed fans have spotted what looked like a new mural of Liam and Noel on Salmon Street in Manchester. Only part of the wall could be seen with a large black canopy covering the majority of the wall.

What was visible though was the outline of Liam Gallagher’s face, and images shared online seemed to show the numbers ‘2025’ or ‘2026’ in yellow fluorescent paint. Now, thankfully it’s all been cleared up – and the mural finally unveiled.

Noel and Liam have been etched onto the wall as part of music platform Spotify’s Unwrapped end-of-year round-up of the year’s biggest music moments and customer’s own individual music tastes and statistics. The black cover finally removed, fans can now see the mural in all it’s glory – and it includes a large tambourine too.

Oasis wrapped on their world tour last weekend after five months of touring and 41 shows. Millions of people joined the scramble for 1.4 million UK tickets as the brothers finally buried the hatchet and reformed on stage for the first time in 16 years.

After kicking things off in Cardiff earlier this summer, the band toured the UK and Ireland, stopping off in Cardiff, Manchester London, Edinburgh and Dublin. They then headed out to Australia, Japan, North and South America, and ended proceedings with two nights in Sao Paolo, Brazil.

Underneath the huge tambourine that sits atop the building, the words ’41 shows, 103+ listeners, 1 reunion’ have been drawn onto the mural. Below, Liam and Noel appear along with a ‘2025 Wrapped’ logo.

Widely shared on social media this afternoon, people have been sharing their own Spotify stats and how often they listened to the Britpop legends over the last 12 months. Liam’s signature musical instrument is also getting a lot of attention too, with one X user writing: “I need that tambourine in my garden.”

Another said they “loved the giant tambo on top” and a third shared there plans for it. “I’m gonna take the tambourine and stick it my roof,” they joked.

“That massive gargantuan tambourine is hilarious and yet uncultured people said it’s not a distinct nor recognisable feature of oasis,” added another fan.

Others called for it to be part of new Oasis merchandise, but some weren’t satisfied with the mural and pleaded for 2026 dates to be announced. Over on Reddit, the Oasis subreddit got into the minutia a little more.

One fan pondered: “Was expected unfortunately with the yellow 2025 at the bottom. Seems like a fairly random thing to spend money on really.

“Sure it promotes the band’s success this year but all that is already established and it does nothing to promote anything moving forward (unless Spotify themselves paid for it). I kind of hoped they might’ve at least released “d’you know what I mean” as a live single to coincide with the Spotify wrapped event given that they randomly uploaded that clip a few weeks back.

“Plus whilst this is massively trivial, surely the 103M+ listeners should’ve gone at the top so the totals decreased to “1 reunion.”

Another weighed in: “It looks like they deliberately exposed the bottom and stretched the characters to make that 5 look like a 6 before the reveal.”

No new dates have been confirmed by the band, but true to form, Liam Gallagher has also been busy teasing fans this week. yesterday (December 2), for the first time in over a week, the rocker tweeted: “BIG ANNOUNCEMENT IMMINENT.”

As well as fans resharing and commenting on the update, Paul “Bonehead” Arthurs, Oasis’ guitarist responded, writing: “Boneheads a geezer.” He also followed it up tweeting: “Hurry up @liamgallagher, I’m going out.”

The post was also shared widely including on the Oasis subreddit, with one fan quipping: “I hope it’s the documentary but it’s probably just Liam joking again.”

As expected no big news came, though he did declare later in the day: “It’s CHRISTMAS“.
