EXCLUSIVE: Fast & Furious star Vin Diesel will now write the feature take of Mattel Studios’ Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots.

Vin Diesel’s attachment to the project as a star and a producer under his One Race Films banner was first announced in April 2021.

The new live-action feature film will bring to life the tabletop boxing game and its characters, Red Rocker and Blue Bomber.

Robbie Brenner, President of Mattel Studios and Chief Content Officer, who is also producing the movie, said, “Vin is a powerhouse storyteller with an unmatched understanding of action, heart, and world-building. His creative vision for Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots is bold, human, and deeply cinematic—exactly the kind of storytelling we love at Mattel Studios.”

Vin Diesel added, “I am excited to expand the Mattel universe by bringing this classic toy from my childhood to a modern audience by telling a story that examines the role of competition in a world often measured by strength and dominance that dares to reveal the power of compassion at its core.”

One Race’s Samantha Vincent is also producing. Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots will be overseen by Darian Greenbaum and Andrew Scannell for Mattel Studios and Vin Diesel for One Race.

Following the massive success of Barbie at Warner Bros in 2023, which was that studio’s highest grossing movie ever at $1.44 billion, Mattel Studios has up next a live-action feature take of popular toy franchise, Masters of the Universe with Amazon MGM Studios which will hit theaters on June 5, 2026. In addition next year, there’s Matchbox with Apple Original Films, that pic starring John Cena.

Rock ‘Em Sock ‘Em Robots was previously set up at Universal.

Vin Diesel is repped by CAA, Linden Entertainment, Felker Toczek Suddleson McGinnis Ryan, and Greenburg Glusker.
