A devastating addiction storyline involving Mercedes McQueen is set to play out in upcoming Hollyoaks scenes.
In recent episodes of the Channel Four soap, it became clear that Diane Hutchinson and Gemma Johnson knew that Mercedes was the one who shot Tony Hutchinson on his wedding day.
Gemma and Diane are out for blood and plan to get Mercedes hooked on anxiety medication to leave her “in ruins”, as Gemma so bluntly put it.
Mercedes received a threatening blackmail note, penned by Diane, which demanded £50,000 or everyone will know that it was she who shot Tony.
Meanwhile, Gemma has been giving Mercedes pills, and this week, we saw Mercedes meet up with Ste Hay and mix the anxiety pills with alcohol, causing Ste to relapse.

As Mercedes continues to spiral, Theresa McQueen seeks help from Warren Fox, after he recently returned and reunited with Mercy.
At the same time, Gemma encourages Diane to continue taking things slow and play the long game when it comes to their revenge plan.
Tony returns home after his ordeal, and Mercedes continues to lean on the pills to cope with her crippling guilt.
Despite their past, Darren extends an olive branch to Mercedes in her time of need, and overwhelmed by emotion, she finally turns to Warren for help. Will this turn put Gemma and Diane in danger?

But Mercedes is set to push Warren closer to his ex, Gemma, when he teams up with her to raise the £50,000 cash, unbeknownst to Mercedes.
Our Hollyoaks insider said: “Gemma tells Warren that she’s had a tip off and suggests that they steal from the robbers – it’s all a bit Robin Hood!
“Warren would rather not team up with his ex, but he’s willing to do whatever it takes to protect Mercedes – including organised crime.
“However, Gemma has happily spied tension between Mercedes and Warren, and she seems delighted that her Christmas wish could be coming true…”
When she spots the two former lovers together, she flies off the handle, throwing accusations at him in a jealous rage, but he reassures her she is the only one he wants and vows vengeance on her blackmailer.
