Ashna Hurynag has announced she has quit her presenting job at Sky News after five years with the broadcaster, releasing an emotional statement. She was supported by friends and colleagues alike as they planned a surprise send-off for her on the air – and Ashna was on hand on X to announce the “breaking news”.

She tweeted: “Breaking news! Thank you to the team for the surprise send-off as I bid farewell to Sky News. The people are what makes it the best place to work. I cannot thank them enough for their support, kindness and friendship over the years. See you on a screen near you soon.”

On air, her co-stars announced: “Sadly we have to break the news to our viewers – it’s Ashna’s last day on Sky News. Really, we are sad about it. We’ve got a little taste of Ashna’s coverage of some tough weather conditions in light of the snowy conditions today!”

A reel of her best moments was then shown – including Ashna being pelted with sleet, snow and rain as she struggled to present her segments in strong winds.

They added: “The other thing about Ashna, genuinely – all the production teams, everyone who works at Sky, no-one has got a bad word to say about this woman. She is just a genuinely lovely person, and we’ll miss you a lot. Why would you want to leave Sky?”

Ashna just said: “I love you all!”

Fans rushed to support her, with one tweeting: “You’ll be so missed but very excited for what’s next for you!”

“Awww, I’ll miss you! someone else agreed. “Thanks for all your newsing and all the best with whatever you’re up to next.”

A third tweeted: “I first watched you on ITV News Central and wanted to send you my best wishes for the next chapter.”
