A promising young boxer was brutally killed with a machete whilst protecting his sister during a shocking attack at the family home.

Josue David Hernandez was at home with his four sisters when the devastating incident unfolded. When one of his siblings was attacked, Hernandez bravely intervened to shield her from harm. During the confrontation, a man fatally wounded Josue with the machete. The 20 year old tragically died at the scene as the attacker escaped from the house in San Luis Potosí, situated north of Mexico City, Mexico.

Emergency responders reached the location on Tuesday, December 2, but could only declare the boxer’s death. The suspect remains on the run. Hernandez was regarded as an emerging talent in Mexican boxing. Despite his youth, he had already shone in his initial amateur contests after beginning the sport aged 15, reports the Daily Star.

He competed in regional tournaments where he secured multiple amateur titles, according to NeedToKnow. Hernandez also took part in exhibition matches and worked as a sparring partner for elite professionals. He was gearing up for his eagerly anticipated professional debut, set for early next year, before his alleged killing.

His coach, former super flyweight world title contender Titan Rodriguez, said: “Today, I woke up to the devastating and heartbreaking news that you are no longer here. “My friend, my brother, my running partner. So many dreams to fulfil. So many conversations and all the trust we had in each other to achieve everything. A part of my heart goes with you.

“God only knows why these things happen, your passing hurts me deeply, and I’m going to work incredibly hard to achieve all the goals we had together. “I love you very much, Josue David Hernandez, may God receive you in his holy kingdom. It’s time to shine in heaven, my king.” The probe into Hernandez’s death continues.
