Leeds Rhinos slumped to their fourth loss of the season as Women’s Super League saw another fixture forfeited as round nine was completed over the weekend.
The Rhinos still sit in fourth spot, despite a 30-16 loss against Wigan Warriors, but are just one point ahead of Huddersfield Giants in fifth. The Warriors remain unbeaten and still sit top of the Women’s Super League table, after another convincing win. Wigan ran in six tries, with Grace Banks, Shaniah Power, Eva Hunter, Mia-Jayne Atherton, Molly Jones, and Tiana Power all getting on the scoresheet for the home side. Bethan Dainton, Izzy Northrop, and Lucy Murray scored for the away side. It gives the Warriors a three-point gap between them and second-placed St Helens.
There was a big win for York Valkyrie as they grabbed a 26-6 victory over mid-table Huddersfield. Tries from Jasmine Bell, Peace Lekuru, Emma Kershaw, Ellie Williamson, and Agnes Wood saw the home side move onto level points with St Helens, who sit in second with a better points difference. Eva Izumi scored the sole try for the visitors.
Barrow Raiders claimed their third win of the season, beating Leigh Leopards 16-10. A brace for Nicole Stewart and a try for Vanessa Temple secured the win for the home side following a spirited second-half performance. The Leopards were leading 10-6 at half-time, thanks to tries from Kate Howard and Mackenzie Taylor, but it wasn’t enough to hold on for the win.
Saints had their game cancelled as home side Warrington Wolves forfeited the game, due to player availability issues, leaving them unable to name a full team. The away side were awarded a 48-0 victory, and the Wolves remain at the foot of the table with no wins so far.
Women’s Super League will resume on Sunday 17th August, with next week seeing Yorkshire v Lancashire at Sewell Group Craven Park in the women’s origin game on Saturday 2nd August.
