Sebastian Tounekti returned to Celtic’s XI for Wilfried Nancy’s first game in charge.

After Martin O’Neill’s impactful interim spell in charge of Celtic, it was the small matter of leaders Hearts visiting Parkhead on Sunday.

Things didn’t go to plan; in fact, it was a nightmare start for Nancy, with Celtic losing to Hearts, and Tounekti getting subbed off after an hour.

After calls for Tounekti to start against Hearts before the game, the summer signing had very little impact, and the supporters made their feelings clear about it all.

What’s the one thing you’d tell Wilfried Nancy he needs to change after Hearts defeat?

Big improvements are needed ahead of the game against AS Roma…

The issue facing Tounekti is that he is now being compared to wingers of the past who have struggled in the green and white colours.

The likes of Mikey Johnston and Luis Palma were mentioned, two players who couldn’t make it at Celtic, and now Tounekti is being spoken about in the same breath, as the reaction on social media proved.

@GlasgowCSC_ wants some reality with Tounekti: ‘Can we end the Tounekti experiment now, Celtic? He is utterly abysmal.’

@logue0809 isn’t happy: ‘Tounekti is honestly the worst.’

@bhoy__88 compared Celtic’s summer signing to Mikey Johnston: ‘Tounekti really is the Tunisian Mikey Johnston.’

And now a Palma comparison, as @McAdamNo5 stated: ‘Tounekti is possibly the worst winger since Palma.’

@FullofCarrie_on wants Tounekti to move the ball quicker: ‘Tounekti needs to just pass it, stop prancing about with it.’

@inchy_1 criticised the predictability of Celtic’s winger: ‘Tounekti is no use on the left. Just trying to get back on his right foot all the time. Every man and his dog knows it’s coming.’

@McFadyen1991 continued with that theme: ‘Tounekti is the most one-footed player I have ever seen, same move over and over again to get it on the right foot instead of hitting it with the left.’

Tounekti’s stats for Celtic against Hearts

This isn’t a good first impression from Tounekti towards his new manager, and don’t be surprised if he is sitting on the bench against AS Roma on Thursday night in the Europa League.

The lack of creativity from the flanks was there to show, with the Tunisia star only creating one big chance during the match.
