Freeview might still rule the roost when it comes to watching TV for free, but Freely is catching up fast. This streaming service – which is actually owned by the same team behind Freeview – arrived last year with it offering a simple way to view content via a broadband connection. At launch, things were pretty limited with Freely only featuring around 30 live channels – a very limited number of TVs were also compatible.
Thankfully, that’s all now changed. Over the past 18 months, more content has been added, and more manufacturers have brought Freely to their screens. In a further boost, just last month, a new PLEIO Puck was also announced, which even brings this streaming platform to older TVs as well.
Now there’s more good news with Freely confirming that another seven channels are being added to its service, which takes the total number of live stations to over 70.
The new channels include CNN headlines – which available now – along with an update from Warner Bros. Discovery UK, which will arrive early next year.
Once that change arrives, Freely users will get access to Quest, Quest Red, Food Network, DMAX, Really and TLC.
Content featuring in the update includes The Yorkshire Auction House, Richard Hammond’s Workshop, The Big Bang Theory, Georgie & Mandy’s First Marriage and the highly-anticipated return of Mock the Week.
All of this will be available without the need for a subscription or paying any fees. As long as homes have an internet connection and Freely-powered TV or set-top box, they can tune in instantly.
Speaking about the changes, Deep Halder, CCO, Everyone TV, said: “These additional channels have so much to offer the Freely audience, further expanding the line-up for UK homes who are increasingly choosing to stream live TV.
“From global news delivered by CNN to the extensive portfolio of entertainment shows from Warner Bros. Discovery, who recently announced some exciting linear-first commissions of fan favourites including a new-look Mock the Week coming to TLC next year. Viewers will be able to easily and seamlessly access these brand-new shows, all in one place, for free, on Freely.”
