Lorraine: Ashley Jensen confirms another series of ShetlandEverything you need to know about Shetland’s series finale as BBC drama is replaced by Mary Berry ChristmasBBC’s Shetland came to an end on Wednesday night, with the series finale sparking mixed reactions amongst viewers. And while the BBC confirmed a new series would be back in 2026, some fans felt the Scottish drama had lost its spark. Many hardcore viewers missed the presence of Jimmy Perez (Douglas Henshall) on the show, while others fear that Billy McCabe (Lewis Howden) has left. One fan said on X, “Just watched #Shetland don’t say we’re losing #Billy too #Perez has gone Billy can’t go.” Another agreed, “Billy is family. They can’t take him away. Not after everything he’s done for the team. Do you think there will be a series 11? #Shetland.” A third added, “Oh, Billy…I hope you are coming back for the next season.”The series finale concluded with Ruth Calder (Ashley Jensen) and Tosh (Alison O’Donnell) finally solving their murder case. The final episode of the series teased, “It’s the morning after the night before, and Calder wakes to a slew of missed calls. Having identified the missing link in Shetland’s drug trade, Calder discovers damning evidence linking them to the murder of Eadie Tulloch. At the police station, Tosh and Sandy lay all the evidence in front of their latest suspect, who frustratingly falls short of a full confession.”Shetland usually airs at 9pm every Wednesday on BBC One; however, a new programme will take its place in next week’s television lineup. The crime drama, which typically broadcasts every Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One, will be succeeded by Mary Berry’s seasonal offering, A Mary Berry Christmas. The programme’s description states: “The TV cook celebrates the magic of the season’s traditions, from personal ones people hold dear to those enjoyed by the whole country. Mary shares some of her favourite traditional dishes and exciting new ones, and is joined by Alison Steadman, Harry Aikines-Aryeetey and Zoe Ball for a reminder of the joy Christmas brings.” A Mary Berry Christmas will broadcast on Wednesday from 9pm to 10pm.
