A stranger walked into a Birmingham primary school and assaulted three people.

West Midlands Police reported no one was ‘seriously injured’ but officers are yet to identify the person responsible.

The incident happened at Reaside Academy, located on Tresco Close in Frankley on the evening of Friday, December 5.

Reaside Academy apologised to children and parents over the incident which a spokesperson called ‘deeply regrettable’.

In response, a spokesperson said additional staff would be at the premises at the start and end of the school day.

A spokesperson for the trust which leads the school said: “The security and safety of our children and staff is our top priority and we take our responsibilities in this area extremely seriously.

“This incident happened at the very end of the school day when the vast majority of children had left the premises.

“It is deeply regrettable that an individual came on site and we sincerely apologise to the children and parents affected, and to the wider community.

“We are thankful that no child or member of staff was seriously hurt and are grateful for the professionalism of staff who responded so quickly.

“We are working closely with the police to ensure the incident is investigated fully.”

“We have undertaken a comprehensive review of security at the school and, as an immediate action, we have ensured that additional staff are in place at the start and the end of the school day to ensure security.”

A West Midlands Police spokesperson said: “We were called to Tresco Close, Frankley on December 5 after reports of three people being assaulted.

“No one was reported as seriously injured, and we are working to trace and identify the person responsible.

“Our officers are keen to hear from anyone who was in the area at the time and saw what happened.
