HBO has unveiled a first look at Zendaya in the long-awaited third season of Euphoria. The hit teen drama is expected to return to our screens next spring, four years after the season 2 finale.

During season 2, addict Rue (played by Zendaya) continued to struggle with her sobriety, causing friction with her friends and family who tried to stage an intervention. Rue persuaded dangerous dealer Laurie to give her drugs to sell, but became indebted when her mum threw away the large stash.

In the final episode, the teenager revealed that she had managed to stay clean for the rest of the school year. However, a new teaser trailer has hinted at more trouble for Rue in the upcoming season.

The YouTube video, which highlights HBO’s 2026 arrivals, sees the cast of Euphoria navigating life after graduation. While Rue shared her optimism for the future during the finale, it seems she can’t quite outrun her troublesome past.

“A few years after high school, I don’t know if life was exactly what I wished,” she narrates, over a clip of her as a passenger in a dangerously driven car.

In one scene, Rue is taken into a dark room where she meets a menacing new character who is lounging in a hot tub. It becomes clear that the pair don’t know each other, but Rue’s unease is visible on her face.

Her fear is justified by the next clip, which sees the mysterious newcomer firing a gun off a balcony. Could he be linked to Rue’s existing debt with Laurie?

Meanwhile, viewers also get a glimpse at some of the other main characters, including Cassie (Sydney Sweeney), who will reportedly create an OnlyFans account, a shirtless Nate (Jacob Elordi) dancing in his living room, and a stylish-looking Jules (Hunter Schafer) and Maddy (Alexa Demie).

The trailer provides a welcome update for Euphoria fans, who have been waiting since 2022 for new episodes. Season 2 currently holds an impressive 78% score on Rotten Tomatoes from 113 reviews, with Chicago Sun-Times branding it a “wild and unforgettable ride”.

“It’s strong stuff. It’s meant to be. Euphoria is its own kind of twisted high,” wrote The Detroit News, while Rolling Stone noted: “The new episodes offer scenes that are so insightful or artfully presented that Euphoria can feel in that moment like one of the very best shows television has produced in a while.”

Euphoria airs on HBO and streams on HBO Max in the US, and on Sky Atlantic and Sky Go/NOW in the UK.
