A £10 payment from the Department for Work and Pensions left one Personal Independence Payment (PIP) claimant confused.
Worried that it may be an error, they took to Reddit to seek an explanation.
They wrote: “Why did I just get a payment of £10? For context I have been receiving PIP and recently had a kidney transplant.
“I just received £10 but that’s it… I’m just wondering is it an accident, or has anyone else only received this amount?”

Fellow forum users were quick to inform them it was a Christmas bonus payment.
One said: “Its Christmas bonus.”
A second wrote: “Stocking filler… A whopping ten quid. Don’t spend it all in one shop.”
Someone else said they’d been equally confused: “I got this this morning too and wondered what it was.”
Another questioned why they hadn’t received the bonus yet, to which another user replied: “Not everyone gets it at the same time, I haven’t had mine yet either so don’t worry!”
Special bonus payments have been landing in bank accounts of certain benefit recipients over the last few days.
The extra cash, known as the Christmas Bonus and is issued annually at this time of year.
The bonus is worth £10 and is paid into accounts automatically.
“The Christmas bonus is a one-off tax-free £10 payment made before Christmas, paid to people who get certain benefits in the qualifying week,” the Government said.
“This is normally the first full week of December. You do not need to claim – you should get paid automatically.”
A full list of the eligible benefits can be found here – however to get the bonus, people must be in receipt of one of the benefits during the ‘qualifying week’ – usually the first full week of December.
