A quality menswear shop has confirmed it is opening a new store in Exeter’s Princesshay. Charles Tyrwhitt is a London-based British men’s clothing retailer specialising in dress shirts, jackets and trousers.

The unit, near Zara, is currently being kitted out. Temporary signage displaying the Charles Tyrwhitt branding and saying ‘hello Exeter‘ can currently be seen by shoppers.

Exeter has been chosen as the store’s first in Devon and Cornwall.

A spokesperson said: “While we are unable to confirm the exact opening date just yet, we can assure you that Exeter has been chosen as part of our continued commitment to bringing Charles Tyrwhitt’s quality menswear to key destinations across the UK.

“Princesshay offers a vibrant retail environment and a strong customer base, making it an ideal location for our next store.

“Shoppers can expect the full Charles Tyrwhitt experience.”

The store is renowned for its range of shirts – from formal business shirts to casual styles, in a variety of fits and weaves, as well as tailoring, including suits, jackets, and trousers “crafted with exceptional attention to detail”.

There will also be knitwear, polos, chinos and outerwear alongside accessories such as ties, cufflinks, belts and shoes.

“Our aim is to provide the people of Exeter with high-quality menswear, exceptional customer service, and a shopping experience that reflects our commitment to craftsmanship and value,” said the spokesperson.

The units in Princesshay’s Eastgate have changed hands several times in recent years. Charles Tyrwhitt will move into premises next door to Sweaty Betty, which until a year ago was a Mooch store. That shop only opened in 2023, replacing Paperchase.
