Grammy nominee Carl Carlton has died at the age of 73, his son has confirmed on social media.
Carlton was a soul legend best known for his tracks Everlasting Love and She’s a Bad Mama Jama.
His death was announced by his son, Carlton Hudgens II, on Facebook this Sunday.
He posted a photo of his Dad, alongside the caption: ‘RIP Dad, Legend Carl Carlton singer of She’s a Bad Mama Jama.
‘Long hard fight in life and you will be missed.’
Carlton suffered a stroke in 2019 according to Soul Tracks.
A cause of death hasn’t been publicly announced.

Hudgens II posted on his Facebook story: ‘R.I.P. Dad, You can finally rest now. Always love you’.
His son also urged the internet to ‘fix [his] Dad’s birthday’. He says May 21 1952 is correct, and not 1953.
Music group Con Funk Shun posted on social media: ‘With heavy hearts, we mourn the passing of the legendary Carl Carlton.
‘His voice, talent, and contributions to soul and R&B music will forever be a part of our lives and the soundtrack of so many memories.
‘Our deepest condolences to his family, friends, and fans around the world. Rest in power, Carl. Your legacy lives on.’
The singer was born in Detroit in 1952 and began his music career in the 1960s.

Originally, he performed by the name Little Carl Carlton, but became Carl Carlton in 1971.
By 1964 he had released I Think of How I Love Her and I Love True Love, which were his first singles for Lando records.
He later signed to Back Beat Records and relocated to Houston, releasing Competition Ain’t Nothing Which reached No. 36 on the Billboard R&B chart.
His first national hit came in 1971 with I Can Feel It, but it wasn’t until 1974 that he finally broke through, hitting the top 10 with a cover of Everlasting Love.
She’s a Bad Mama Jama (She’s Built, She’s Stacked) was released in 1981 and became the song he was best known for.
It was nominated for a 1982 Grammy for best R&B vocal performance, male, and continues to be streamed widely.
The song was used in the soundtracks to films like Miss Congeniality 2 and Fat Albert, as well hit TV show Friends.
