Mohamed Salah returned to the Liverpool squad for the 2-0 victory over Brighton after being dropped for the game against Inter Milan following his outspoken interview

Jamie Carragher doesn’t believe Mohamed Salah has a long-term future at Liverpool – but has urged the forward not to leave the club next month. The Egypt international returned to the Liverpool squad for the 2-0 victory over Brighton & Hove Albion after being dropped for the Champions League win over Inter Milan in midweek. Salah was dropped as a result of his outspoken interview after the draw with Leeds United in which, among other things, he said he had been “thrown under the bus” by the club and raised questions about his continued stay at Anfield. The club will continue to talk to Salah’s representatives while he is away with Egypt at the Africa Cup of Nations, but Reds boss Arne Slot insisted there was “no issue to resolve” with the forward after the win over the Seagulls.
Saudi Pro League clubs are planning to step up their interest in Salah when the January transfer window opens next month, but Carragher, speaking on Monday Night Football, delivered a passionate plea to the 33-year-old in which he urged him to reconsider a potential departure next month.

He said: “I don’t see Mo Salah playing for Liverpool next season. The big thing in my mind is are we going to see from now until the end of the season?
“Now we know he is going to AFCON. AFCON will finish in mid-January. Now it is obvious that he has got an issue with the manager.
“But I want to give credit to the manager. He could have easily said Mo is not involved for this game against Brighton, he will got to AFCON and we will sort it when he comes out.
“But he thought it is bigger than me and it is about the team, and it is more important that Mo Salah is on the bench, and he made a contribution in the second-half.
“Last week I was giving advice to Mo Salah and his agent, and I am going to do it again because what you saw at the end of the game against Brighton was Mo Salah (doing) a lap of appreciation, a little bit emotional with the Kop there, and he’s probably not sure himself if that is his last time at Anfield.

“If he is thinking about moving on, I would urge him to think again. And the reason I would say that is if Mo Salah is to move on from Liverpool now, the talk is he would go to the Saudi league, which is talked about over there but probably nowhere else, except when the transfer window is open.
“Now Mo Salah is not going to leave Liverpool to go to Barcelona or Real Madrid; I have just mentioned the Saudi league. Now Liverpool in the second-half of the season, they could get to an FA Cup final. They could get to the Champions League final.
“Can you imagine Mo Salah in Saudi, playing for whatever team he is playing for, watching Liverpool come out in Budapest in a Champions League final?
“You come back at the end of January; you have got three months. Okay, you might not get on with the manager, you will start some games, you will be sub in some games, you won’t come on in certain games.”

Salah walked around the Anfield pitch after Saturday’s win, clapping all sides of the ground, but Carragher believes another reason why the forward should stay with the club is to ensure he gets the send-off he deserves.
He said: “But does Mo Salah deserve more than that as a Liverpool player? He deserves a guard of honour. He deserves a mosaic in the Kop. He deserves to bring his wife, kids and family on the pitch in his last game and actually celebrate what he has done as a Liverpool player.
“Put your differences with the manager to one side and think three or four months at Liverpool. The worst thing that is going to happen is that I get this big send-off.
“The best thing that could happen is I am walking out with my team-mates in Budapest in the Champions League final, and if he was sat in Saudi Arabia watching Liverpool do that, I think he would really regret it.”
