Hollyoaks unleashed two dramatic new twists as the fallout from Bobby Costello’s death continued.

The teenager was tragically killed by Jez Blake last week, with the serial killer adding one murder to his ever-growing tally as he sought not only to silence Bobby, who knew of his crimes, but also to get revenge on Mercedes following his disastrous wedding ceremony.

Matters have been complicated, however, with Tony Hutchinson hitting Bobby’s lifeless body as he attempted to swerve from a taxi, with the character mistakenly believing that he caused Bobby’s death.

Tuesday’s (29 July) episode began with Tony telling Diane that he would hand himself in to the police, though she urged him to reconsider given his history with Bobby. Knowing that Bobby had murdered Tony’s sister Verity, Diane pointed out that he had an obvious motive.

She reasoned that he had to support his family despite his feeling of guilt, though Tony said that he had a duty to Bobby’s mother Mercedes, who he has recently been sleeping with. Tony and Diane had an immediate problem too, with Ro hearing parts of the discussion.

Tony attempted to salvage the conversation by fabricating a cover story in which he had a job in Paris, with Ro believing his lie as he wished his father good luck. Diane remained unconvinced by his decisions, telling him it would be a mistake.

Mercedes, meanwhile, expressed her grief as she accused Clare Devine of Bobby’s murder, though Dodger Savage said that it was a hit-and-run incident. A tearful Mercedes didn’t buy any of his words, with Frankie Osborne also dismissing Dodger’s bond with Clare.

As Clare felt Lucas Hay’s wrath, Diane made a bold decision to back Tony as she vowed to destroy the ‘evidence’ – Tony’s car – for the sake of their family. As she careered into a lamppost, would she be able to throw the scent from Tony?
