EastEnders fans are claiming that they’ve ‘worked out’ who started the fire as Max Branning returned to Walford once again.
Things are ramping up on the BBC soap in recent weeks, with Christmas on Albert Square just around the corner. At the centre of the action is Zoe Slater, with Michelle Ryan’s daughter trying to find her long-lost son.
In scenes aired on Monday (December 15), a number of secrets about Zoe’s past came to light. On top of Anthony Trueman learning that he’s likely the father of Zoe’s children, the mysterious Jasmine admitted to police that she’s her daughter.
Zoe remains unaware of the reveals as is currently dealing with who’s been stalking and tormenting her for the past few months. Initially reluctant to believe her, Kat Slater has been trying her best to find out who has been leaving Zoe a number of ominous messages, including a message at the Christmas lights event telling her to ‘die’.
In scenes aired on Tuesday (December 16), Jasmine confirmed once again to the police that she has no connection to the Fords. Fans were adamant that she was linked to the crime family after she pushed Cindy Beale, who was in conflict with the family, down the stairs.
Despite his family hating her, Oscar Branning has been hopeful of finding love with Jasmine. However, he decided to call things off with her when she refused to tell him anything about her mysterious past.

While this was happening, Anthony came clean to Chelsea Fox about being the father of Zoe’s kids, making her promise not to tell her as he wants to warn them to stay away from his mum. Later in the evening, Anthony lied to Kat and said that he found out that both of Zoe’s twins died after their births.
Elsewhere, Zoe was stunned in No. 25 when she learned that a fire had started and that someone had unhooked the smoke alarm. Left alone in the burning room, Zoe was rescued by Oscar, who heard screams from outside the house.
Oscar was later rushed to hospital after inhaling smoke from the fire, where Jasmine was warned by the Brannings to stay away from him. Making his third return of the year, actor Jake Wood emerged as Max as he prepares for his new permanent stint on the programme.
EastEnders fans rushed to social media to have their say on who they think started the fire. The top suspects at this moment of time among viewers is Anthony and Zoe’s son, who is yet to make an appearance on the programme.
@RaynaLouise said on Reddit: “I know Jasmine is the obvious suspect for who started the fire. But I found it weird that she didn’t react when Lauren mentioned the house being on fire, and she definitely heard her. She only reacted when Oscar’s name was mentioned… because she cares for Oscar.”@ jajay119 added: “It’s clearly going to be the son who will have managed to live in complete secrecy this whole time and who will have known who Zoe is despite Jasmine not knowing.”
@SmellsLikePetrichors wrote: “I am getting the feeling that the fire was maybe started by Jasmine’s brother who is kind of hiding out in the shadows of this storyline currently. Jasmine pulled a face that made me think she realised it was him, and it might be interesting if she’s the more level headed of the twins and he’s a complete nutcase.” @MissKLO stated: “I was thinking Anthony was the only other suspect.”
