Dundee head to Motherwell looking for invaluable points this weekend.Dundee Head Coach Steven Pressley

Steven Pressley reckons Motherwell are up there with Hearts as the shining lights of this season’s Premiership.

Dundee managed to get a home draw against the Steelmen last time out.

Now they will travel to Fir Park looking to repeat that or even go one better against Jens Berthel Askou.

“I think that they’ve been the real shining light alongside Hearts,” Pressley insisted.

“They’ve been excellent. They play in a really progressive way and have a real attacking threat.

“I like them a lot. Jens Berthel Askou has done a good job there.

“It’s going to be really tough down there, but I think we’ve got players that can give teams problems.”

Motherwell are a team who like to dominate but Pressley reckons his players can counter that.

“We will have to be better with the ball,” the Dundee head coach confirmed.

“They’re a team that wants to dominate the ball, so we’ve got to be equally as good against the ball.

“When I look back at the game from Dens, a big difference was the way we were against the ball in both halves.

“We were much better in the second half. So we have to do that. We have to be aggressive against the ball.

“Again, we’ve demonstrated on our day that we can surprise people. We’re going to have to do that this weekend.”

Dundee have struggled for goals but in recent weeks have started to create and are now putting the finishing touches to things. The only issue was that they also blew a two goal lead at Livingston last time out and had to settle for a draw.

Pressley confirmed: “I think that’s maybe seven goal involvements for Cam (Congreve), which is a terrific return.

“Yan (Dhanda) has started to really find the groove, and a really sublime finish from him and Tony Yogane, an assist.

“So there were a lot of positives in that.

“We need greater goal contributions from a number of players and that was a really pleasing factor, the fact that we managed to get that.

“And again, going away from home, scoring the two goals is another positive. We’ve not done that on too many occasions.

“Of course, when you’re 2-0 up, you want to win the game.

“But equally, we didn’t lose the game. In the Premiership, if you go away from home and you get a point, it’s not always a bad point.

“But from the position we’re in, I think that that’s the disappointing aspect.

“That when you’re 2-0 up, you’re just not going to want to win the game.

“But we need to take the really good things in the first half into the next game.”

In other news Dundee boss Pressley has already confirmed a January departure.
