The star, who was born in and grew up in Oxford, played Professor Sprout in several of the fantasy movies adapted from JK Rowling’s book series.

Ms Margolyes won a BAFTA for Martin Scorsese’s 1993 film, The Age of Innocence, but was notably not nominated for an Oscar for the same role.

This was due to her co-star, Ms Ryder, instead being nominated for the accolade of Best Supporting Actress.

Speaking on the matter previously on The Graham Norton Show, she said: “I was brilliant in it [the film], and the reason I wasn’t nominated was because of Winona Ryder, I don’t like her, I really don’t.

“What happened was she was nominated as a supporting actress instead of being nominated as a lead actress, and if she’d jolly well kept herself to herself, she would’ve been nominated as a lead actress, and it would have been me as a supporting.

Graham Norton responded cheekily: “Oh that b***h!”

Ms Margolyes added: “Absolutely, I was livid.”

Ms Ryder is currently appearing on the hit Netflix show Stranger Things, playing the role of Joyce Byers.

The 54-year-old has starred in all five seasons of the popular sci-fi show, with this current fifth series being the final instalment.

Three episodes are set to be released on Christmas Day (December 25), while the show’s finale will be available to stream on New Year’s Eve (December 31).
