Championship club Oldham have moved to clear things up after seeing a winding up order filed against them.
Reports emerged on Wednesday of the winding up petition, with the Roughyeds being the subject of legal action from HMRC due to an unpaid debt. The news came as something of a concern, especially with Salford Red Devils being liquidated earlier this month and Featherstone Rovers entering administration.
However, Oldham have nipped things in the bud quickly and efficiently with a short statement released on their website. In the statement, it is claimed that the club were unaware of the debt but following the winding up order, it has now been settled.
As such, they state that the HMRC petition will be dismissed, with Oldham believing they have nothing to answer for.
The statement read: “Oldham Rugby League Club would like to provide an update to supporters following recent reports of a winding-up order issued against the club.
“The order relates to a historic debt of which the club was previously unaware. This matter has now been resolved, and the petition will be dismissed.”

The Roughyeds were overlooked for promotion to Super League over the off-season with an independent panel choosing Toulouse Olympique and York Knights to step up. However, in what is just their second season back in the second tier after promotion from League One, the club will be keen to take the next step in their development and compete for silverware this time around.
London Broncos appear to be their biggest challengers, with the big spending club from the capital bringing in a raft of players from down under. Oldham, though, will feel as though they have the squad in place to compete with the Broncos at the top end of the division.
The Greater Manchester outfit are due to kick off their season with a clash against Salford, but they are still waiting to find out whether that game can go ahead, after the RFL chose to delay a decision on a phoenix Red Devils club.
