Newcastle Thunder have continued to strengthen their roster for 2026, with their latest recruit being a former Hull FC youngster.

Jude Ferreria will continue the trend of players who have been released from York Knights to arrive at the club, with the likes of Joe Law, Bailey Antrobus and Sam Cook all making the move to the North East this off season.

The moves come on top of a partnership between the two clubs, where any fringe player at the Knights can find game time at the Thunder, and any players with Super League potential can join the Knights squad in the top flight.

Coached by Castleford legend Graham Steadman, Newcastle finished bottom of league one in 2025, losing every match. However, with the signings they have made, they are expected to climb the merged second tier structure and will be looking to get their first league win since September 2023.

On his new recruit, Steadman said: “Jude has got the right mindset to fit into our 2026 squad and offers some strike from the outside backs. Once fully recovered from injury, we’re confident he’ll add real competition and quality to our squad, and I am looking forward to working with him.”

Ferreria is a product of Hull FC’s academy, but never managed to make his senior debut. He was on a season-long loan at London Broncos in 2022, before another year-long switch saw him play for Hunslet in 2024.

Injuries have hampered most of his time as a senior player, as he only managed to make three appearances for York in the campaign just gone.
