Viewer interest in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest has fallen following Germany’s withdrawal from the competition.
KiKA saw a significant drop in viewer interest in the Junior Eurovision Song Contest following its withdrawal from the contest this year. Viewing share data published by ESC Kompakt shows that the contest had a share of 1.4% of viewers aged under 50, the equivalent of 28,000 viewers, a significant drop compared to 2024.
In 2024, an audience of 85,000 viewers aged between 3 and 13 watched the contest with a share of 17.9%, compared to just 14,000 viewers in this age group with a share of 4.9%. Overall, the audience appears to have dropped by around 300% compared to 2024.
KiKA withdrew from the Junior Eurovision Song Contest in 2025 following changes to the organisation of German participation in the Eurovision Song Contest. NDR and KiKA had previously collaborated on Junior Eurovision participation, however NDR was replaced as the broadcaster responsible for Germany’s Eurovision participation by SWR following the 2025 Eurovision Song Contest.
