A popular villain may be debuting in Spider-Man 4.
Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures’ Spider-Man 4, also known as Spider-Man: Brand New Day, will be released in United States theaters next summer. Directed by Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ Destin Daniel Cretton, the film will see Tom Holland once again reprise his role as Peter Parker/Spider-Man.
Who might be debuting in Spider-Man 4?
According to scooper Daniel Richtman, it appears that Chameleon may be appearing in Spider-Man 4. Richtman reports that “concept art for the character was reportedly seen on set.”
This is just a rumor, and it should be treated as such at this time, as Marvel has not announced that Chameleon will be part of Spider-Man 4. There have previously been rumors suggesting the character may be in the film, but nothing has yet been confirmed.
There was a character named Dmitri Smerdyakov, credited simply as “Dimitri,” in Spider-Man: Far From Home. Played by Numan Acar, this character is seemingly supposed to be based on the Chameleon character, as the supervillain’s real name is Dmitri Smerdyakov. Having said that, the character is mostly only seen posing as a bus driver for Peter Parker, and he never actually does anything as the Chameleon. If Richtman’s report turns out to be true, it’s unclear if Acar will be playing the character and will actually appear as Chameleon in Spider-Man 4 rather than just as Dmitri, or if somebody else has been cast in the role entirely.
Additionally, Chameleon was a character played by Fred Hechinger in 2024’s Kraven the Hunter; however, Kraven the Hunter is set in Sony’s Spider-Man Universe, which takes place in a different reality than the MCU.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day arrives on July 31, 2026, as part of Phase 6 of the MCU.
