Manchester City have been busy.

They were active in the January transfer window and moved decisively at the start of the summer to sign a clutch of first-team stars.

The spend is towards the £300million figure and goalkeeper James Trafford is the latest addition.

It’s a significant outlay as Pep Guardiola revamps his squad following a trophy-less campaign. But it’s not just the here and now that the Blues have tackled.

City have future-proofed their squad in recent windows as they look to bring in the next generation of superstars. Some may emerge from in-house, as Nico O’Reilly did last season, but the Blues have scoured the global market looking for the best youngsters available.

Having signed now 19-year-old Vitor Reis in January, and completed the addition of 18-year-old playmaker Claudio Echeverri, the club this month secured the services of Norwegian sensation Sverre Nypan.

The midfielder has been a sought-after talent over the past few months but City won the race to sign the 18-year-old and he’s penned a five-year deal after the Blues agreed a £12.5million deal with Rosenborg.

He’s the latest talented teenager to join and will likely spend next season out on loan. That pathway is also earmarked for Reis and Echeverri, although the latter impressed Pep Guardiola at the back end of last season and earned a surprise debut off the bench in May’s FA Cup final.

He also caught the eye at the Club World Cup, scoring a free kick against Al Ain before picking up an injury.

All three could, in theory, be kept around Guardiola’s squad to develop in-house, but with the Blues having a bloated squad, loan moves are the most likely option.

And all three are exciting talents for the future. The trio could be City stalwarts for years to come and their progress over the coming season will be worth keeping an eye on.

For all City can spend big on ready-made first-team options, the benefits of nurturing young talent are there for all to see. The Blues have three teenagers aiming to make the grade – what comes next could whet the appetite.
